STAYING SAFE

Keeping you safe

It is important that you and your family are safe and that you know how to access support if you need it.

If you are in immediate danger then call the police on 999

At Goode Tutoring, we want you to be happy and safe whilst you are on the course. Our Safeguarding Policy outlines the measures we take to ensure your well-being.

If you ever feel vulnerable or unsafe and want someone to talk to, we encourage you to talk to your tutor or to our Safeguarding Lead, Clare. You can find her details on posters in the classroom or ask your teacher.

All our staff receive Safeguarding training.

Prevent

Throughout your course you will hear about Prevent, which is part of the UK Government’s strategy to stop terrorism. Prevent aims to tackle challenges of terrorism and focuses on identifying and addressing radicalisation. Radicalisation is the process by which a person comes to support terrorism or extremist ideologies, or influences someone else to support such ideologies.

All teachers and staff play a crucial role in implementing Prevent strategies. All our staff receive training on Prevent.

When should I worry?

Someone may be being drawn into extremism (radicalised) if they:

  • suddenly spend a lot more time online; have more than one online identity

  • are very secretive about where they are going and who they are meeting

  • have dropped old friends and have new ones that you don’t meet

  • have changed, e.g. different appearance, new religion

  • express extreme ideas in person or online, e.g. blaming other races or religions for problems, promoting hate or violence towards non-white people, Muslims, Jews, LGBT+ people, women etc

  • look at extremist materials online

  • share or distribute extremist materials online or in person • are a member of an extremist group

  • try to get you to join an extremist group or to agree with their extremist views

If you have any concerns related to radicalisation, speak to your teacher or contact Birmingham Prevent Team at prevent@birmingham.gov.uk or visit www.gov.uk/prevent
